Copyeditor & Proofreader

Copy Editor & Proofreader

Job Description:

The Copy Editor & Proofreader will be responsible for editing, fact checking and proofreading all content for the quarterly PCAA newsletter.

Time Commitment:

6-8 hours per quarter (3 months); more time will be spent in the lead-up to production

Responsibilities:

  • You will copy edit and fact check all articles for the newsletter following the PCAA newsletter style guide
  • You will proof newsletter drafts to ensure all copy, links, photos and formatting are correct
  • You will edit and proof all website content to ensure copy, links, photos and formatting are correct
  • You will contribute to the development and maintenance of the PCAA newsletter style guide

Qualifications:

  • You know your way around all the editing functions of Word and Google Docs
  • You have experience editing and proofreading for publication
  • You are familiar with CP Style
  • You are organized, collaborative, pay extremely close attention to detail, you’re good at taking initiative and passionate about flawless content
  • You are one of the following: a member of the PCAA, alumni of the ProCom program, a current MPC student or a current BA student (3rd or 4th year) of the ProCom program

About the PCAA Newsletter:

The ProCom Alumni Association (PCAA) Newsletter is a quarterly publication sent to alumni of the ProCom community. The newsletter aims to keep our alumni connected to one another and to the School of Professional Communication by sharing news and stories about our ProCom alumni community, the MPC program and ProCom department, and our communication industry. We encourage active participation and engagement with the ProCom community through fascinating stories, alumni and faculty spotlights, important updates and announcements, and interactive polls and surveys.

Graphic Designer

Job Description:

The Graphic Designer will be responsible for all graphic design, photo editing, layout design and production proofing for the quarterly PCAA Newsletter.

Time Commitment:

6-8 hours per quarter (3 months); more time will be spent in the lead-up to production

Responsibilities:

  • You will design, produce and proof the layout and graphics for the annual roundup edition using InDesign
  • You will source and edit photos and design graphics as needed for all issues of the newsletter and the website
  • You should be available to attend a few events and photo shoots per year as a photographer

Qualifications:

  • You know your way around InDesign and Photoshop
  • You have experience creating layouts, editing photos and creating graphics
  • You have some experience and interest in photography and have your own equipment
  • You are organized, collaborative, creative, good at taking initiative and passionate about good design
  • You are one of the following: a member of the PCAA, alumni of the ProCom program, a current MPC student or a current BA student (3rd or 4th year) of the ProCom program

Sales & Marketing Coordinator

Job Description:

The Sales & Marketing Specialist will be responsible for developing relationships with approved advertisers and sponsors and selling ad space for the quarterly PCAA newsletter.

Time Commitment:

2-3 hours per month

Responsibilities:

  • You will create a media kit including a rate card for potential new advertisers and sponsors
  • You will find and suggest potential new advertisers and sponsors for the PCAA newsletter
  • You will maintain ongoing relationships with approved advertisers and sponsors
  • You will sell ad space and sponsorship opportunities in the newsletter and on the website

Qualifications:

  • You have experience with sales and marketing and forging positive relationships
  • You have experience editing and proofreading for publication
  • You are familiar with CP Style
  • You are organized, collaborative, good at selling and negotiating, taking initiative, and passionate about winning new business
  • You are one of the following: a member of the PCAA, alumni of the ProCom program, a current MPC student or a current BA student (3rd or 4th year) of the ProCom program
