John Shiga Appointed Chair of the School of Professional Communication

“It is my pleasure to announce the appointment of John Shiga as the Chair of the School of Professional Communication.

“John’s career in communication began in 2004 when he acted as an instructor at Carleton University’s School of Journalism and Communication. In 2012, he became an Assistant Professor at Ryerson University and was later promoted to Associate Professor in 2017 with his teaching focused on communication and media in intercultural, political, and scientific contexts.

“John’s knowledge in the field is broad, even as he continuously conducts his own research and projects. Currently, he is finishing a SSHRC-funded research project on ocean sound. For the last three years, he has also been collaborating with colleagues in Theatre, Nursing, and the Centre for Communicating Knowledge to create an arts-informed knowledge translation initiative.

“As Chair, John aims to shape ProCom’s growth in a way that supports the success of faculty, staff, and students, fosters innovative and socially-impactful research and teaching.” — Charles Falzon, Dean, Faculty of Communication and Design

We are delighted that John will be stepping into the role of Chair and excited to watch the progression of the school under his leadership.
